PortaPayments in Retail

Funky Android has been supporting retailers since 2010 by providing them with an easy method of generating QR Codes which customers could use to buy goods and services via PayPal called PortaPayments.

We’ve recently seen details of PayPals own retail offering which, unlike PortaPayments, is limited to a few large retail chains and requires customers to use PayPals own application. Using PortaPayments allows customers to choose which application they want to scan payment codes, which usually results in faster payments due to the customers familiarity with the app they chose, and can be used of retailers of any size without any prior agreement with us.

We look forward to continuing to support retailers with an open solution which is available for anyone to use with any application capable of reading QR codes and directing customers to a website.

Support Portal Upgrade

We have recently upgraded our support portal to provide additional features for customers. You can now receive support via twitter by sending a message our twitter account, or, if you have a premium support agreement with us, your online invoice will shortly be updated with a US and a UK phone number you can use to phone in and open a ticket.

All tickets will be responded to via a written medium (twitter, or, for premium support customers, an email to their accounts registered email address) to ensure any issues can be fully tracked.

PortaPayments for Android Retired

Funky Android Ltd. have decided to end active development of their PortaPayments application for Android. PortaPayments for Android was developed for over 18 months, but with the release of an application of a similar nature by PayPal we no longer feel investment in its future can be justified.

The PortaPayments QR Code generator will continue to be available to the public and can generate QR codes which can be scanned and used by any scanner or application capable of directing users to a website.

Funky Android on the Motorola Security Podcast

Al Sutton, a director of Funky Android Ltd., has been asked to appear on the panel for Motorola Mobility’s ”Enterprise App Security: Android & HTML5″ podcast later today.

Having worked on our Enterprise Password Safe and Android projects Al is in a great position to offer advice and take questions on these issues.

Funky Expenses Version 2 released

We’ve made version 2 of Funky Expenses available to the public via Googles’ Play Store. Version 2 will bring the app up to date with the latest user interface and technical recommendations which have evolved since the previous release which was made when 2.x was the latest version of Android for ‘phones.

Supporting Android Projects in the Google Summer of Code

This year we will, once again, be helping Open Intents with their Android projects for the Google Summer of Code 2012. Last year we helped out by offering a backup mentor to help with one of the student projects.

Googles Summer of Code allows students to be paid to work on open source projects. It helps open source projects grow their communities and helps students to become familiar with the processes involved in being part of an open source project. Last year we were involved with mentoring the student developing the Historify application and look forward to being involved in an equally successful project this year.

Patent Evaluation

With the recent increase in patent lawsuits it’s always useful to be able to get the opinion of a third party on infringement claims.

We’ve recently been helping legal teams evaluate patent infringement claims and explain the technical concepts at a level legal teams are comfortable with. We aim to help legal teams construct a robust defence by increasing their understanding of the issues relevant to a claim within a few hours, and, if necessary, provide expert witness documentation to help with counterclaims.

Enterprise Password Safe version in development

We’ve put a couple of screen shots of the development version of the next release of the Enterprise Password Safe up on the Enterprise Password Safe Google+ Page so that our existing customers can get an idea of what to expect.

We welcome any constructive feedback and we’re happy to discuss feature ideas for the next version which is currently scheduled for release in Q1 2012.

Support portal launched

We are pleased to announce the launch of our support portal which is designed to improve the support experience for customers and users of our products. This portal will replace the other methods of support we have used in the past to ensure that those interested have a single place to go to obtain answers or raise support questions in relation to our applications they are using.

If customers with support agreements have any questions in relation to the new portal they should contact their account manager.

Enterprise Password Safe 1.58.15a released

Enterprise Password Safe 1.58.15a has been released which updates the bundled version of Java to 1.6.0_26, and updates the user interface to reflect the product is now developed and supported by Funky Android Ltd.

The new version of the EPS and a trial license can be downloaded from the Enterprise Password Safe site at http://www.enterprisepasswordsafe.com/download.html
